We provide a full service to our clients and no matter how simple or complex your case may be, we will always work hard to ensure that all your needs are met. We welcome inquiries from all over the world, but especially from the Southwest. Because we have a contract with the Legal Aid Agency, some of our services may be free for low-income people or people who receive certain benefits. LSSM makes every effort to provide services; However, due to limited resources, we can only help people with the most critical legal problems. The clinic will provide legal services in family law in collaboration with the centre. The clinic will provide pro bono counseling, counseling, and representation to the center`s clients in various family law matters, including, but not limited to, domestic violence, property division, visitation, custody, parentage, and child support. Students advise clients at different stages of a family law matter under the supervision of experienced Centre lawyers. Students explain customers` rights and obligations to customers in user-friendly language. Under the direction of their professor, students develop and implement an investigation plan to prepare the case and follow up on assigned cases throughout the semester.

The Family Law Clinic offers law students from the Southwest the opportunity to develop legal skills and provide quality legal aid to a vulnerable and underserved population in a community-based learning environment. Under the close supervision of the associate faculty member (a staff attorney at the Harriett Buhai Center for Family Law Center), students provide legal advice and advice to clients in the area of family law, with domestic violence intertwined in most of these cases. In this clinic, students apply their knowledge of civil procedure and community property as well as the research and writing skills acquired in LAWS. Students at the clinic will participate in a weekly course component in addition to their case work to further their knowledge of family law. Students complete their office hours, assignments and case supervision at the centre. Eligibility is determined by your monthly income, current net worth, family size, the type of legal problem you have, where you live, and certain other factors. In most cases, applicants must comply with financial and asset policies to be eligible for services. Legal Services of Southern Missouri (LSSM) is one of four Missouri legal advisory organizations funded primarily by the Legal Services Corporation (LSC). LSC is a private, not-for-profit corporation created by a congressional bill to ensure low-income people have equal access to justice nationwide. Under federal law, the LSSM is not authorized to assist prisoners in dealing with criminal cases, district court cases, bodily injury, or workers` compensation cases.

LSSM`s legal services are free of charge; However, court costs may be charged to clients. LSSM can provide assistance with wills, estate planning and estate planning in limited situations. Simple estate planning can include beneficiary acts, powers of attorney and health policies. We can also provide guardianship support to people in need of protection. Personal requests are accepted in all offices. You can apply by calling one of the local or toll-free numbers at the local offices. You must contact the office that serves your district of residence. We work mostly remotely and have a limited presence in the office. We are not able to see clients face-to-face without an appointment.

Students at the clinic learn many facets of professional responsibility such as client confidentiality, responsiveness to client requirements, zealous advocacy in practice, and responsibility for their work. Working with real clients in real-life cases, students will learn how to deal with difficult clients and appreciate the value of public service and the importance of access to justice for low-income clients and underserved communities.
